Bitsy Bernor What constitutes "having fun"? Since I retired from my job at the Colton Public Library five years ago, my favorite thing to do is travel. My interest in photography has been an outgrowth of that pastime. I used a pocket-size point- and-shoot camera for vacation snapshots until I joined the Redlands Camera Club in 2011 and signed up for Frank Peele's basic photography classes. Right from the get-go Frank's instruction was a big help in selecting a SLR digital camera (I settled on a Canon Rebel) and appropriate equipment. I even bought a used tripod from another RCC member. Three years later I am still buying stuff (bigger and better lenses) and attending all the club meetings, workshops and field trips that I can. My frequent travel companion and RCC member is Bitsy Bernor. Our first photo safari was to South Africa. She looked for birds and I was on the trail of the "big five." We were not disappointed. We will be taking our second trip to Africa in April 2014. In the meanwhile, we have visited Ecuador and the Galapagos; Italy, Greece, Turkey, Ukraine, Croatia and the Black Sea; and most recently, Vietnam and Cambodia. I always pack my camera and extra batteries.
