Featured Photographer - April 2010

Larry Cowles I got my first taste of photography as a teenager when my parents gave me a Kodak Brownie Hawkeye Camera but my real interest started while in the Air Force. A friend took me to the base dark room and taught me how to develop black & white, I was hooked. My first 35mm camera was a Petri 7S which soon gave way to a Minolta SRT-101. Now all digital, I use Nikon equipment. Over the years, I have been involved in several camera clubs (10 years with Redlands) and the Photographic Society of America. My photographic interests have changed over the years and feel I have found my niche in portrait/people photography. I find that no matter where I go for a vacation or a photographic outing, I tend to start taking pictures of people. This interest along with my wife, Susan getting into photography a few years ago has led us to start a part-time photography business, Eastvale Photography, Unfortunately, I haven't been able to give up my day job as an Application Engineer for an electronic component manufacturer. I worked in the film processing industry for 10 years in marketing and sales which also included teaching basic photography. Over the years I have been involved judging for camera clubs and other photographic events, putting on workshops and lecture on various photographic techniques including portrait photography workshops. My most recent project was developing a Blog to help photographers in Southern California find photogenic events, SoCal Photo Opps
