Frank Peele Frank Peele's interest in photography came naturally. The son of a navy photographer, he shot his first commercial assignment with his dad's Speed Graphic 4 x 5 press camera when he was 13. In high school he was the photographer for the school newspaper and annual, and he photographed the school's dances and sporting events. After graduation he enlisted in the navy to attend the service's excellent photo school, but with no plans to become a career sailor. The navy offered him such excellent opportunities, however, that he stayed for 30 years and enjoyed a career that was both rewarding and exciting. Frank joined our club in about 1987 while on his final tour of active duty. Although he was serving in Washington, DC at the time, he and his wife Sue knew they would return to Redlands on his retirement in late 1988. When he became active in the club, there were about 40 members and the club met monthly. He has seen - and been closely associated with - many changes over the years since then, and takes pride in the club's growth and in the successes of its members. He has served on the club's board most of the years since 1988, and did four terms as president. He is the only RCC member to both receive the President's Award for Exceptional Service and be named an Honorary Life Member. Frank is busy outside RCC as well. Active in the Inland Empire Professional Photographers and Videographers (IEPPV), he served two terms as the group's president and was recently the first inductee into the IEPPV Hall of Fame. Also an inductee into the Professional Photographers of California Hall of Fame, he is on the board of that statewide organization and serves as a speaker and competition judge for affiliate groups around the state. One of Frank's tours of navy duty was as an instructor in the Advanced Photo School, and through that experience he realized how fulfilling a challenge teaching can be. Locally he established a photography program for the Redlands Adult School, and taught its courses until the school was the victim of the state's adult education budget crisis. He migrated that program under the club's umbrella and expanded it, creating the Redlands Camera Club School of Photography. Click here to see the current course and workshop offerings.
